The South West is home to some of England’s best restaurants and is also an important source of produce for chef’s across the country. Find out what all the fuss is about with this carefully curated selection of experiences in our Top 100 Auction, including a fish masterclass with Simon Hulstone; a meal for two at No.6 Paul Ainsworth; and a trip to Cornwall to see where the specialist Thai ingredients for Kiln’s Ben Chapman are grown.
A meal for two at Outlaw’s New Road plus five signed cookbooks
Be among the first to visit Nathan Outlaw’s recently overhauled flagship and experience the best seafood cookery the UK has to offer. The dishes are still based on the freshest seafood Cornwall has to offer but are a little simpler and served a la carte rather than in tasting menu format. The winning bidder will bag a three-course dinner for two plus all five of Outlaw’s cookbooks signed and personalised (if required).
Cooking in Cornwall with Kiln’s Ben Chapman
As chef-patron of Kiln, a former Best Restaurant in the UK, Ben Chapman is renowned for bringing fiery Thai clay pot cooking to Soho. However, many of the Thai produce used in the restaurant are grown specially in Cornwall, and this is where you’ll be heading with Ben and his team to discover the secrets of Thai cooking and understand more about the ingredients it uses. You’ll also cook and eat with the team, learning some key wok skills along the way, to help you finely hone your Thai cooking skills.
A meal for two at No.6 Paul Ainsworth
Paul and Emma Ainsworth’s flagship restaurant has built a reputation for its fun approach to fine dining, serving modern British food with a focus on Cornish produce. Set within a pretty Georgian townhouse, the dining room itself is just as fun, with bright, colourful artwork helping create a space that reflects the couple’s personalities. The pair are offering a four-course dinner for two with the lucky winning bidder able to choose from the restaurant’s seasonal a la carte menu. Paul is also offering a meal for two at his other restaurants Caffe Rojano and The Mariners
Fish masterclass with Simon Hulstone
Family-run The Elephant in Torquay is a Michelin-starred restaurant that overlooks the harbour and is home to some of the best cooking in the south west. Chef-patron Simon Hulstone will take you to visit the famous Brixham fish market where the restaurant sources much of its seafood to help choose some seafood and will then run a masterclass demonstrating the best ways to prepare and cook fish. This will be followed by a meal in his newly-refurbished restaurant.
