Led by Lisa Goodwin-Allen, this elegant Ribble Valley restaurant knows how to bring out the best in the Lancashire larder
Part of the Stafford Collection, this charming country house hotel and restaurant in the heart of Lancashire’s Ribble Valley delivers fine dining with professional but true Northern hospitality. Overseen by executive chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen, who has led the kitchen brigade since the age of 23, the restaurant champions the finest local produce, creating a beacon of food and wine excellence that’s bolstered with warm and genuine service.
The Michelin-starred dining room is elegant, stylish and sophisticated, with views of the garden and distant hills of the beautiful Ribble Valley.
Having joined the Northcote back in 2001, Goodwin-Allen has developed a natural understanding of local ingredients. With her Northcote grounding she creates dishes full of exact and harmonious flavours, which draw inspiration from the landscape. The five-course gourmet tasting menu works with the seasons to bring out the best of every product and create dishes such as wild turbot with clams, cucumber, sea lettuce and dill; 75 day-aged Lake District beef with smoked marrowbone, slow cooked onion and watercress; and Norfolk quail with mushroom, young turnip and bacon.
A vegetarian menu is also available, and includes sample dishes of Yorkshire asparagus with sheep’s curd, sourdough and sorrel; aubergine with Isle of Wight tomato and basil; and potato lyonnaise with hen of the woods, garlic and alliums.
The wine list is also treated as a vital and integral part of the dining experience at Northcote. Years of meticulous research, tasting and sourcing by Craig Bancroft and his dedicated team has resulted in an award-winning selection of wines, which pair perfectly with Goodwin-Allen’s food.
