Lita

Marylebone, London

A Mediterranean Marylebone restaurant serving gutsy food in a stylish setting

£££££

Irish chef Luke Ahearne has joined forces with Canadian-born restaurateur Daniel Koukarskikh at this live-fire restaurant that celebrates the flavours of southern Europe.

Working at the restaurant’s impressive open kitchen, Ahearne and his brigade treat Lita’s high-quality ingredients with respect, with dishes such as smoked Basque sardines, whole Cornish turbot, and rib of Galician beef dexterously cooked over a fire grill. Dishes are hearty, with a number on the menu designed to be shared.

Lita’s wine list is as serious as its food offer, with an impressive champagne and sparkling offer and a focus on French classics. There are a handful of wines by the glass and 375ml carafe but prices climb pretty quickly for the bottle selection.

Lita – which is short for ‘abuelita’, a Spanish term of endearment for grandmothers – describes itself as a neighbourhood bistro but its menu (and prices) feels higher end, even though the timber-beamed dining room itself has a more laid back – if not still very polished – feel to it. The overall atmosphere is warm, well-heeled and family friendly, with staff more than happy to provide youngsters with expensive art books to flick through while their parents dine.
