The team behind acclaimed Islington gastropub The Baring crossed the river in 2025 with the launch of The Kerfield Arms, a relaxed but sharply executed food-led pub in Camberwell. Opened by Adam Symonds and Rob Tecwyn alongside chef-partner Jay Styler, the new venture builds on the success of The Baring, which launched in 2022 and quickly established itself as one of London's standout modern pubs.
The food follows the same philosophy that made The Baring such a success: deceptively simple cooking rooted in strong produce, classical technique and carefully balanced flavours. The menu changes regularly with the seasons but dishes have included cuttlefish and lardo shish with pul biber chilli; fried pig's head with smoked eel and warm tartare sauce; Yorkshire hogget with violet artichokes, bagna cauda and pine nuts; and grilled monkfish with fregola and shrimp bisque. Desserts are equally polished, with a gariguette strawberry and chamomile custard doughnut standing out as an early signature.
Like its Islington sibling, The Kerfield Arms also puts significant emphasis on accessibility. A changing weekday lunch offer - priced at either £12 or £15 and including a pint or glass of wine - delivers remarkable value for cooking of this calibre and has already become a major draw locally.
Located on Grove Lane, just off Camberwell Church Street, the pub occupies an imposing corner-site pub that previously traded as The Crooked Well. The team has stripped back and refreshed the interiors, relaunching the venue under its original historic name. Inside, there is a large central bar designed to accommodate drinkers and walk-ins alongside a separate dining room for reservations, while upstairs a private dining room seats up to 25 guests. Much like The Baring, the atmosphere strikes a careful balance between neighbourhood pub and serious restaurant - informal enough for a quick pint, but ambitious enough to justify travelling across London for dinner.
